Please permit me to give you a short report and update about the Music School Project we would like to arrange for the coming school year (fall 2015 through summer 2016).
During the last school year we had about 25 students. (Unfortunately, the number of students fluctuated because the parents did not always encourage their children to practice; success depends on the parents, not just the students. From our side we are trying to do as much as we are able.) The kids performed at 6 concerts, as well as at homes for elderly people. When we organized banquets for Holocaust survivors at our facility, they especially liked to listen to the young musicians.
The total expenses for our 25 students last year were as follows:
- 25 students @ 360 NIS per month times 10 months = 90,000 NIS, or about $24,500.
- Their parents paid 35,960 NIS, or about $9,800 US.
- Another $3,500 US has been contributed by other sources.
- We subsidized the remaining amount of $10,700 US from our general donations.
This has not been easy for us, but we are thankful to the Lord and all our friends who supported classes for those 25 kids. Also, I am convinced that it was a blessed time for the students.
So far during this school year, 31 – 32 students started their classes, and we have not yet finished the enrolment process. We are trying to find additional qualified teachers this year.
We now offer lessons for the following:
- piano (with a second teacher)
- violin
- guitar
- flute
- drums
- choir
- vocal (a new subject for which we have a great teacher)
- musical theory
For this school year the tuition fee for each student is 360 NIS ($95 – $100 US) per month.
This fee covers the teachers’ fees and some maintenance expenses of the school (+/- 5%). The facility and utilities are a gift from our ministry. We expect that our total expenses will be approximately 115,200 NIS or $31,135 US. The parents will cover about $12,000 – $14,000 US, and we are prepared to subsidize with $6,000 – 7,000 US from our general fund. Therefore, we are now looking for additional support of $10,000 US for our Music School Project to continue operating and serving.
For this reason I would like to ask you to please forward this information and request to your pastor and committee who are making decisions about aid for various ministries abroad. Please ask them to prayerfully consider supporting our Music School Project, which will be a huge blessing to our students and future generations of Israelis.
