The smiles of our “golden age” senior citizens are truly more precious than gold

We call people of “golden age” in Israel those who have survived a lot. Some of them saw the horrors of war and the Holocaust, suffered the hardships and deprivations of the Soviet Union era and most have also encountered culture shock moving to another country and returning to their historical homeland.

Surely, the Jewish State is doing its best to support everyone, creating the conditions for timely treatment and sustaining health. However, it is hardly possible to call life of welfare recipients well off – help is never superfluous. Most of all attention in difficult times is impossible to replace with anything else. Many mature people at “Return to Zion” congregation are residents of hostels and social apartments, they found themselves during quarantine face to face with loneliness and are discouraged. And the task of our ministry was to bring them a little joy and support at least with the small food baskets we provided.

Our team prepared parcels with fresh fruits and vegetables, fish and meat, just before the country’s Independence Day. Although it requires a lot of effort to purchasing the groceries, to prepare and delivering food packages during quarantine it certainly brings genuine joy! The smiles of our “golden age” senior citizens are truly more precious than gold.
