Another Educational tour for Olim Chadashim to Banias and Tel Dan

On February 10, 2017, a team from our Messianic Congregation, Return to Zion, ceased the opportunity to arrange a one day tour for the Olim Chadashim (new immigrants) to northern Galilee during the end of our winter season. This time of year there are special blooms that occur throughout Israel. After heavy rains, the Jordan River is filled by streams of water from its major sources – the Snir River, Banias, and Dan. We faced the challenge to visit all three of these sources and to enjoy the waterfalls, as well as the natural environment and archaeological sites. At first, we went to the Dan River and the ancient city of Tel Dan – a Jewish biblical city.
Tel Dan was once under the rule of the Phoenician city of Sidon and called Laish. During the period of the Canaanites, it was conquered and occupied by the tribes of Dan and later renamed Tel Dan. After this period, the nation of Israel was divided into two kingdoms (the north and south). In city of Dan an idol was erected which consisted of a golden calf and the temple. This is where worship was taking place.
The second river, an archaeological reserve, we visited is called the Banias (Panias) – an ancient city in Israel at the foot of Mount Hermon. This river is the eastern source of the Jordan River.
Finally, we climbed the highest mountain range called Ben Tal. This location is a mountain of volcanic origin in the Golan Heights of Israel, near the border to Syria. Here, we to the highest point of the mountain at Ben Tal, which is 1,171 meters above sea level.
